North Korea Travel Advisory
Level 4: Do Not Travel
COVID-19 Border Restrictions and Arrest Risks
The U.S. Department of State advises against all travel to North Korea due to the ongoing high risk of arbitrary arrest and long-term detention of U.S. citizens. This warning is based on the following safety concerns:
COVID-19 Border Restrictions: Entry into North Korea remains prohibited due to COVID-19 border restrictions. Travelers attempting to enter the country may face significant delays, denied entry, or be subject to mandatory quarantine.
Risk of Arrest and Detention: U.S. citizens who travel to North Korea face a heightened risk of being arrested and detained on charges of espionage, illegal entry, or other offenses. North Korean authorities have a history of detaining U.S. citizens for extended periods of time without due process or access to legal representation.
