Josh Padley Drops, Outpoints Mark Chamberlain In Upset Win On Riyadh Season Show In London
Josh Padley produced a career-best performance to upset Mark Chamberlain on the undercard of the BOXXER show in London with a deserved points win.
The 22-year-old from Nottingham spoiled the party in the chief support bout on the BOXXER show in London as the more experienced Chamberlain failed in his attempt to claim the vacant WBC International Silver super-welterweight title.
Padley started quickly in a busy opening round, but Chamberlain settled into the contest and finished the round strongly with a flurry of shots. The second round continued in the same way as the first, but both men stood toe-to-toe and traded punches with spite.
Chamberlain seemed to be growing into the fight, but he was met with stiff resistance by Padley, who was enjoying his best period in the contest.
Round four was a cagey affair with both men knowing that they were in a close battle, but Chamberlain was able to edge the round with the cleaner work. The fifth round proved to be pivotal as Padley dropped Chamberlain for the first time in his career with a right hand to the temple.
Although Padley was unable to capitalize on the knockdown, it was clear that the momentum had swung in his favor and he was able to control the rest of the fight. Chamberlain was unable to find a way back into the fight and Padley was able to coast to a well-deserved victory after 10 pulsating rounds of boxing.
Padley's win is a major upset and will send shockwaves through the super-welterweight division.
The 22-year-old is now unbeaten in 10 fights and will be looking for a significant step up in competition next time out. Chamberlain, meanwhile, will be disappointed with the defeat but will be hoping to bounce back soon.
