Mexico beats New Zealand 2-1 in friendly, Aguirre debuts
Mexico's national football team defeated New Zealand 2-1 in a friendly match played in Auckland on Thursday, in what was the debut of coach Javier Aguirre.
Henry Martin (45+1') and Raul Jimenez (52') scored for 'El Tri', while Chris Wood (32') had the momentary equalizer for the locals.
Mexico started the match with a clear dominance of the ball, but it was New Zealand who opened the scoring through Wood, who took advantage of a rebound after a shot by Joe Bell.
Before the end of the first half, Martin tied the match with a header after a cross from Jesus Gallardo.
In the second half, Mexico took the lead through Jimenez, who defined with a powerful shot after a pass from Martin.
With this victory, Mexico ended its tour of the United States and Oceania, in which it also defeated Chile 2-1.
Aguirre's team will now prepare for the Concacaf Nations League, which will begin in June.
